Choosing a nursing home for yourself or a loved one can be difficult. There are many things to consider including the quality of care and services provided. As you know, nursing home quality can vary. That’s why we added a new feature on Nursing Home Compare to allow you to tell if a nursing home has been cited for issues related to nursing home abuse or neglect.
Now when you use Nursing Home Compare, you’ll see a red alert icon if a facility has been cited for nursing home abuse that led to harm within the last year, or potential harm of a resident within the last two years. Each month, we’ll review nursing home inspection reports and will update the alert icons to make sure you have the most recent information on nursing home abuse.
Here are some helpful resources you can use when thinking about and comparing nursing homes:
- Use the Nursing Home Checklist to evaluate each nursing home when you visit.
- View the booklet “Your Guide to Choosing a Nursing Home and Other Long-Term Care Services & Support” to learn more about your long term care options and how to choose a nursing home.
Ensuring quality of care in nursing homes is another example of how we’re committed to empowering you to make health care decisions that are right for you and your loved ones.
