Hospital care (outpatient)

How often is it covered?

Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) helps cover outpatient services like doctor's services, emergency and observation services, lab tests, and X-rays.

Who's eligible?

All people with Part B are covered.

Your costs in Original Medicare

You pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount for most doctor services while you're an outpatient after the Part B deductible is met.

For hospital outpatient services, you pay a  for each individual outpatient hospital service.  

Generally, Part B doesn't cover the prescription and over-the-counter drugs you get in an outpatient setting (like an emergency department), sometimes called "self-administered drugs."
