There are several ways to move around this tool:

Grey buttons:  In general, to advance to the next step in the tool, you'll use the grey buttons. Depending on where you are in the tool, the buttons will say different things, like "Continue," etc. Click on the button, and you will go to the next step.

Tabbed Menu Bar:  Sometimes, in the upper portion of the web page you'll see different "tabs" with words on each tab, going horizontally across the page. If you see a tab, you can click on it to get more information on a particular topic. The tab that is white indicates the page you are on, while the other tabs are "faded" grey in the background. An example of a tabbed menu bar appears below. This example tells you that you are at the "Help" tab.

Back Links and Buttons:  To go back to the page you were on before you got to the current page, some (but not all) pages on this tool will have a link that you can use. Click on the link, and it will take you back a page. You can also use the back button on your browser to get back to the previous page.

Starting Over:  If you want to start over in the tool, you can use the "Physician Home" link to get back to the Home page of the Physician and Other Healthcare Professional Directory.

Learning More:  At many points throughout the tool, you have the chance to learn more about a particular topic. You can get to this information by clicking on the link in the green "Learn More" box on the right side of the screen.

 

Here are some tips that will help you search for the information you need:

You may search for a Physician or Other Healthcare Professional while on this tool. You may search for a physician by choosing the 'Find a provider' button on the Choose a Provider Page. You may search for a Healthcare Professional by choosing the 'Find Other Healthcare Professional' button on the Choose a Provider Page.

Step 1:   You must first choose a search option.  You may choose to search by Geography, Distance from Location, or by Last Name of a physician or other healthcare professional.

• For Geography searches: you must either select the State or County option. By choosing the State option, you search the entire state. By choosing the County option, you will search a particular county in Step 1.
• For Distance from Location searches: you must enter the name of the City and select a State OR enter a ZIP code. Then you choose the distance in Step 1.
• For Name searches:  enter the physician or healthcare professional's last name or at least the first two letters of the last name and select the State that you wish to search.

Step 2:   Select a specialty group and one or more specialty types.  There may be more than one specialty type for each specialty group.

Please Note:  Other Healthcare Professionals won't have specialty types available to select.

Step 3:  Select whether you would like your search to include Participating Physicians, Non-Participating Physicians, or Both.  When you have made your decision, click the Continue button.

Please Note: This step won't appear if you are conducting a healthcare professional search. The majority of healthcare professionals with the specialties displayed participate in Medicare. There are some exceptions. They are marked with an “*”.

When all of your selections have been made, a "Search Results" page shall be displayed. It will contain a list of providers, their phone numbers, and their addresses. For Providers with more than one location, the number of locations will be listed in the address field. You can click this link to list all of the addresses.

In addition, the "Search Results" page shall display a 'P' icon to the right of the names of physicians who are Participating in Medicare.  The physician names without a 'P' icon are Non-Participating Physicians.  For more information regarding Medicare Participation, click here .

Please Note: The ‘P’ icon won't display during a healthcare professional search. The majority of healthcare professionals with the specialties displayed participate in Medicare. There are some exceptions. They are marked with an “*”.

• Search results are limited to 250 providers.  If your search returns more than 250 results, you will be asked to refine your search.  20 providers are displayed in each table.
• If you want more specific details on the provider you selected, click on the provider's name.  A page will appear providing you with the following data:
  • Provider Name
  • Medicare Participation – Icon to signify if the physician participates in Medicare (Please Note: This is only applicable for physician searches)
  • Provider Specialties
  • Address and Phone Number (per location)
• The following data may appear if available for the provider:
  • Education (Medical School and Year of Graduation)
  • Training - Residency and Internship
  • Gender
  • Foreign Language(s)
  • Hospital Affiliation

Printing the Physician and Other Healthcare Professional Directory

If you want to print the results of your search or the profile of a provider, click on the "Print This Page" icon.  This will display a "printer friendly" version of the page.  To return to the original page, click on the "Return to previous page" link at the top of the page.

Changing the Font Size

If you want to view the Physician and Other Healthcare Directory in a larger font, click on the "Use Larger Font" link located in the upper right corner of your screen.  To return to the normal font size, click on the "Use Smaller Font" link.
