Enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan

Enroll

You can enroll directly in a plan if you already know the plan that you want to enroll into.
When can you enroll?
  • If you have both Medicare and full Medicaid coverage, you can join a plan at any time.
  • If you're new to Medicare, you can join during the period that starts three months before the month you get Medicare, and ends three months after you get Medicare.
  • If you are eligible for a Medicare Advantage Plan you can join or switch Medicare Advantage Plans from January 1 to March 31 of every year, but you can’t join or drop Medicare prescription drug coverage during this time. For instance, if you are in a Medicare Advantage Plan with prescription drug coverage, you could return to the Original Medicare Plan but you’d have to also join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan at the same time.
  • In all other cases, if you want to change plans you are generally limited to making changes between November 15 and December 31 each year.
  • In special circumstances, Medicare may give you an opportunity to switch to another plan. For example, if you permanently move out of your plan’s service area; if you qualify for extra help paying for prescription drugs; if the plan stops offering prescription drug coverage; or if you enter, live in, or leave a nursing home.
